The Make Up Story began as a dark night but quickly emerged in both directions as a confusing thought experiment. Once I stopped thinking about it, though, it soon began meandering nowhere before finally eating my pen. Now the stories must be chanted in unison until they find their way into words. Words that are currently congregating on pages waiting to be printed.
Hopefully those words will entertain you, maybe make you laugh, and hopefully bring you some joy.
The Little Boy loves to have adventures, but he won’t shout about it. He is very curious, but not as curious as cats, (he’s not reckless!). His favourite colour is the smell of fresh weekdays but not Fridays as they remind him of fish.
The Little Girl also loves to have adventures but is much more robust about her enjoyment. When not adventuring, she is a keen reader and as such has numerous shelves filled with clouds.
Like so many classic stories before it, The Make Up Story began as a bedtime story for children who wouldn’t go to sleep.
The Little Boy and Little Girl first found form in a story created for Inktober. A couple of further Inktober outings followed and some illustrative evolution later, here we are.
Here is the beginning.
What’s next is anybody’s guess, that is the beauty of making things up, not to mention nonsense. But if you do mention nonsense it will likely make no sense. Like a squirrel in flip-flops baking mung bean pies to lure ancient hermits from behind library shelves where they have been mocking the lemurs.
What is actually next, hopefully, is a film, with vocalised words and series of still images put together to create the illusion of movement.
